When the ever-calculating Treadsack Restaurant Group surprised us all with last month's announcement of its secret tribute-to-the-Gulf-Coast-restaurant, Bernadine's, the Heights powerhouse left many wondering what their plans were for the yet-to-be-built Foreign Correspondents. Bernadine's replaced the farm-to-table Thai concept that was to be built adjacent to Hunky Dory currently under construction, but where would Foreign Correspondents move to?
Treadsack is relocating the restaurant to 4721 North Main. If the address sounds familiar, it's the property Dan Braun of Braun Enterprises purchased this summer. Braun, who also purchased and renovated Harold in the Heights and the forthcoming drive-thru banh mi restaurant, Oui Banh Mi, is renaming the complex from Heights Center to The Heights Place. The 23,000-square-foot retail center is undergoing a major facelift and will include new tenants, like Foreign Correspondents once completed.
It's unclear whether the Thai restaurant will take over the former Capellini's space (the Italian restaurant moved to 1504 Airline Dr. in the fall) but it's a possibility. When the restaurant group announced the concept last year via a press release, it was noted Foreign Correspondents would "seat 200 in its bar, dining room, and shaded outdoor area." The suite vacated by Capellini's fits that description with an adjacent patio area to boot.
PJ Stoops, king of Gulf Coast bycatch, will serve as executive chef with Benjy Mason as the restaurant's culinary director. Foreign Correspondents will provide authentic Thai offerings once opening next spring.
