Braun Enterprises Transforms Yorktown Plaza into Vibrant 53 West Complex

Braun Enterprises has completed the redevelopment of two buildings in Houston's Uptown-Galleria area more than five years after buying the property.

The Houston-based real estate company transformed a 193,853-square-foot complex into 53 West that offers office space, a private coworking area, restaurants, a food hall and retail space. One of the buildings includes Braun Enterprises’ Urban Office concept, a flexible workspace with private offices and shared amenities.

The project on West Alabama Street near the Galleria mall includes 168,000 square feet of office space and 32,000 square feet of ground-floor retail.

Braun Enterprises bought the property built in the late 1970s and formerly known as Yorktown Plaza in 2019.

“We saw an opportunity to provide a new type of office experience in Uptown Houston that paired convenience of access and parking with a variety of on-site restaurant and retail amenities,” Braun Enterprises President Dan Braun told CoStar News in an email. “It motivated us to purchase the property and reimagine the buildings into a cohesive mixed-use destination. With our strong office and retail occupancy rates, we are happy to add the redeveloped 53 West to Braun Enterprises’ growing portfolio.”

Ground-floor restaurants at 53 West include Burger Chan, Hidden Omakase and Tom & Tom's coffee. A food hall called Conservatory also opened at 53 West. The food hall features 11 food vendors and bars.

53 West plans to open two new retail concepts on the ground floor later this year, according to a statement.

Braun Enterprises was founded in 1989 as an owner, operator and developer of commercial real estate properties. The company has more than 60 properties within its portfolio in Austin, Houston and San Antonio.
