Gus's World Famous Fried Chicken Coming to Houston

HOUSTON CHRONICLE

There may be an abundance of Houston places serving up Southern comfort food. Still, the rumor that famed Memphis-based Gus's World Famous Fried Chicken might be coming to Houston managed to cause a commotion on Facebook.

The popular fried chicken restaurant that has earned a place in the world of Southern comfort food legends is now confirmed to be putting down roots in Houston.

Local food blog In The Know was the first to report that the restaurant, which already has an Austin outpost, would be debuting at 1815 Washington, just steps away from where Austin-based Tacodeli will be launching.

"Per (a) tipster, Texas All Fry LLC, a subsidiary of Austin AllFry LLC operating Gus's Fried Chicken in Austin, signed a lease with Braun Enterprises as new tenants of 1815 Washington Avenue," the blog reports. Braun Enterprises will also be redesigning the 1940s, 4,000-square-foot space.

"We had our sights on Houston, because we lived here for 15 years. We know the potential is huge, because everyone likes fried chicken," owner Brad Blodgett told CultureMap.

Gus's World Famous Fried Chicken has a number of locations throughout the country, including restaurants in Missouri, Georgia, Arkansas, and Kansas.
