Lucky Burger will close by the end of the month, and its owners are looking for the “right tenant” to fit into the prime Montrose spot.
Dan Braun, with Houston-based Braun Enterprises, confirmed a Swamplot report that Lucky Burger will close as soon as the end of the month. A partnership purchased a collection of buildings on the prime parcel in the Montrose area in 2011, including retail buildings and office buildings totaling 12,630 square feet on 1.4 acres at 1601 to 1625 Richmond and 1643 Richmond. Their properties include Orange Bar, Maria Selma’s Mexican Restaurant, the Harp Irish Pub and the Lucky Burger site.
The barrel-shaped, bright Lucky Burger has operated under several different owners since it opened in the mid 1970s. Braun said his partnership is “selectively marketing” to find the right tenant for the space.
He said the other properties he owns will likely remain and in July he will open a new bar The Revelry on Richmond. For those who will miss Lucky Burger: the new bar will serve hamburgers.
“We are putting a lot of money on Richmond to make the center look good and cater to the crowd around the neighborhood,” Braun said. “We’re going to pick the right user, a cool concept, and cater to the neighborhood, with all the new multifamily and new residents to the neighborhood and create value by creating a cool place for everyone to patronize.”
